The City of Rome is one of the most remarkable cities in the world. The historic city center is a showcase of Western civilization with art and artifacts from the previous three millennia. Wherever you walk, there seems to be an unending parade of ancient Roman, Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque and modern sites to see. That is a good thing in general, but it can be somewhat overwhelming, too.

This guide is the result of our desire to focus on a specific class of sites to see, namely, the archeological sites of ancient Rome. By ancient Rome, we mean the Rome from the citys founding in 753 BC to the end of the Roman Empire in 476 AD. Thats over twelve hundred years of cultural history to cover!
